The Transformation

60 Pounds.
90 Days.

Looking at photos and videos from various speaking engagements and podcast interviews was a turning point. I didn't like what I saw. I realized I wasn't as healthy as I thought. At one point, I was carrying the equivalent of a 60-pound dumbbell everywhere I went — up and down stairs, into meetings, day in and day out.

I reconnected with my good friend Carl Ferro, founder of Sunfare, a Los Angeles-based company offering healthy meal prep services. I completed a 90-day program and a 60-pound body transformation. That meal prep service is still part of my lifestyle today.

This wasn't just about losing weight; it was about reclaiming my health, my confidence, and my future. I eliminated sleep apnea, acid reflux, and high blood pressure. I now wake every morning before 5:00 a.m., full of energy, clarity, and focus.

The Wake-Up Call

The Widowmaker

In 2015, Ron Penna brought in a cardiologist and his team to do preliminary testing on any employee who volunteered for a free heart screening. After extensive testing, the doctors discovered that I had an 80 percent blockage in one of the main arteries in my heart — known as the "widowmaker" because a near-complete blockage of this artery can be fatal.

They put in a stent to open up the obstruction. This ultimately saved my life.

Fast forward to 2025, I had more advanced testing done with the Cleerly test, only to discover that I had 75% blockage in another of my main arteries. I'm now addressing this with specialists that focus on heart attack and stroke prevention with an aggressive protocol and treatments.

I share this because on the outside, I look healthy. I work out 7 days a week. An annual physical would never have discovered the blockages that I have. Basic testing paid for by insurance, unfortunately, is not enough.

The Philosophy

Diet. Exercise. Mindset.

My mission now is not to chase quick fixes or dramatic transformations, but to commit to the long game: a life built on consistent choices, healthy habits, and a fitness-driven mindset.

Diet

No artificial sweeteners, sauces, creams, or processed foods. Only whole, clean nutrition. Meal prep is part of the lifestyle, not a phase.

Exercise

Wake up at the same time every morning, drink sixteen ounces of water on the way to the gym, and complete a straightforward, full-body workout. Usually finished in under forty minutes.

Mindset

Don't let one "cheat meal" turn into a second, then a third. The very next day, get back on track. That's the trap I refuse to fall into again.

Leadership & Wellness

Leaders Who Train
Retain Better Teams

This is about more than personal health; these habits influence how you operate as a leader. Leaders who maintain physical fitness have statistically higher employee retention and loyalty. I saw this firsthand from the founders at Quest. Shannon competed in bodybuilding, and Ron has always maintained the highest level of physical fitness.

At Quest, we offered free gym memberships, in-house biohacking services, tanning beds, sleeping rooms, massages, and therapy and bodywork treatments — all complimentary for employees. We brought these same offerings to Legendary Foods.

Many employees have been inspired to reflect and work on their own wellness journey because they see the good we are doing with our products and health research. Nothing is mandated, but when people see others taking care of themselves and the results that follow, it creates a ripple effect.

Finding Answers.
Saving Lives.

Proactive health goes beyond individual choices, which is why the medical research side of Legendary Foods is so important. For about a decade, Ron has personally funded millions of dollars for cancer and heart disease research.

We recently started our own foundation — BioShift Research Foundation — a nonprofit organization 100% focused on finding answers and cures for both cancer and heart disease. We now have almost 15,000 square feet of laboratories, with scientists, technicians, and physicians all working tirelessly to find answers for the prevention of cancer, heart disease, and other metabolic diseases.

I'm proud to be a co-founder of this organization and can truly say that I've found another "why" and purpose in my life.
